Wilger Inc.

Company Description

Wilger began by building field sprayers in 1976 and many features that are still used on agricultural sprayers today were pioneered by Wilger manufacturing. Starting in 1985, Wilger began developing and manufacturing spraying components and technology to improve the safety, efficacy, and function of spraying applications. Current President and Owner, Mark Bartel, has continued to develop and pioneer new technologies in the rapidly changing agricultural industry.

The first designed component was the Combo-Jet® "all-in-one" tip-cap assembly, with permanent stainless steel tip, O-ring seal, and compatible with a snap-in strainer which was 40% longer than alternatives. The tip-cap stays secure when removed from a nozzle, which is safer than having each part separate and prone to falling apart when removed from a nozzle.

At the same time, the Combo-Jet® nozzle body was developed to mount up to 3 tip-caps on a single body, giving the ability to "swivel" the body to change the tip without removing a tip-cap at all.

From the beginning, Wilger's intent has been to improve and develop new spray technology and components that will allow better efficacy or control of spray applications. For many, this control took the form of reducing driftable fine droplets or otherwise wasting chemicals, but increasingly it having tip-caps that can match any chemical's required droplet spectrum and rate of application. Based on this desire, Wilger developed four more series of droplet selective tip-caps (SR, MR, DR, and UR series), which provide more meaningful droplet sizes while reducing drift. These can be matched to any chemical application by using Wilger's Tip-Wizard digital spray tip calculator (available on the wilger.net  website or smartphone app).

Wilger Flow View™ Ball Flow Indicators were developed for spray applications where you could not see the actual tip-caps or spray. The reasoning for this improvement was because it is easy for an applicator to be unaware a nozzle has become plugged, or even worse, a tip-cap has fallen off or is worn out. All of those issues would mean waste. Blocked tip-caps would mean missed targets or weeds, reducing the efficacy of the application. Worn out tips or tips that were knocked off would mean overapplication of the chemical. These issues would be alleviated when mounting the flow indicators near the applicator so he can see the actual flow levels. The clear flow indicators and accessories show the relative flow between different nozzles, so you can know immediately if there is an issue that needs to be addressed. Both the low flow and standard flow indicators allow the use of colored balls to monitor the flow up to 0.70 USPGM (for low flow) or up to 2.70 USGPM (standard flow) per nozzle.

Another issue that had limited sprayers was weight. Wilger's Quick Nut SST boom system was built and developed specifically for sprayers. The stainless steel tubes maximize flow while maintaining a sturdy but light boom pipe. The plumbing fittings manufactured by Wilger also provided a great deal of possible configurations for configuring a boom. Not only are the fittings more cost-effective, they are
also compatible with a ¼” NPT fittings, allowing even more configurations. All Quick-Nut fittings are easy to install and remove if service to a sprayer needs to be done "on the go" as well. As far as the weight is concerned, 1” SST would weigh just under 25% of schedule 40 pipe. Within the line of fittings, a very compact boom end flush valve allows for an easy and safe flush of the boom, which takes up a great deal less room than plumbing ball valves off the boom or removing end caps to drain the boom.

For more complex setups where multiple flow rates and shut-off options were needed, the Combo-Rate® modular nozzle bodies and accessories were developed. The nozzle bodies can be stacked with accessories for shut-off options, more nozzle bodies, or diagnostic tools (i.e. pressure gauges) to benefit any spraying application.

Wilger strives to keep developing and finding new ways to improve spraying and planting equipment to make it easier, safer and better to keep up with all of the different environments that we are farming in today. For any questions about the products or how to improve your current spray configuration, don't hesitate to contact Wilger.
